A Housekeeper's Perspective
During Glad to Care Week (16-20 June), which celebrates care professionals, we received a special note at Abbeyfield House Bramhall, from our Housekeeper, Patricia Ward, who has been with us for 19 years. In this note she explained her reasons why she believes Abbeyfield House Bramhall is 'the best care home there is'
With nearly two decades of experience, Patricia's insights are invaluable, offering a unique glimpse into the heart of our home. Manager, Courtney Obrien, describes Patricia as “a great asset to Bramhall, who always goes above and beyond”.
So, what makes Abbeyfield so special in her eyes? Let's dive into her twelve reasons.
I like working at Abbeyfield because…
1. It has a warm, friendly atmosphere. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful.
2. The care is excellent.
3. Each resident is cared for as an individual with their own character, their own needs, likes and dislikes, and mental abilities. All staff work within the framework that each resident is a unique individual. Observations are always ongoing, and changes or challenges are acted on quickly.
4. It feels like a family and to achieve what we do is very rewarding.
5. Of the many homes I have worked at, this is the homeliest. I feel like I would be very happy to live here in my later years because I know I would be safe, well cared for and in good hands if I became ill.
6. The end-of-life care here is excellent. Everything possible is done to ensure the resident is always comfortable and pain free. The family are always included, and staff are aware of their needs and involvement as well.
7. I love the layout of the house; it feels like a proper home and the garden is so relaxing and lovely.
8. The activities are great, it’s always interesting to see what the residents are doing, they have made some beautiful things for the home, and they all seem to enjoy their time doing activities. We have had some great singing sessions and some great laughs.
9. It’s always so clean and smells fresh when you come in.
10. It is well run by our manager, Courtney. Courtney’s priority is the mental, physical, and social wellbeing of the residents and everything else follows that.
11. When I am on holiday I look forward to coming back to Abbeyfield to see what I have missed. I have never felt like that anywhere else I have worked.
12. The staff really care about the residents. I have witnessed the genuine emotion of the staff when we lose someone.
