In 1956, our founder, Richard Carr-Gomm, recognised the growing need for connection and community among older adults. He envisioned a network of safe and friendly homes where older people could maintain their independence while forming friendships and finding support. He invested his own money in the first Abbeyfield houses, and more houses were founded through the generosity of many supporters. This vision, built on compassion and support, remains at the core of Abbeyfield Living Society today.

How your donations help

Your donation, big or small, will play a vital role in helping to enrich the lives of older people across the country.

Your contribution will:

  • £25 could help pay for new outdoor sports equipment to keep residents active.
  • £250 could pay for an entertainer to visit a home and bring residents together to enjoy a special event.
  • £2,000 could help to purchase a specialist hospital-style bed to care for a resident with limited mobility.

There are multiple ways you can contribute to Abbeyfield

Make a single donation

Become a regular donor

Make a lasting impact by setting up a monthly, quarterly, or annual donation through a standing order or direct debit. Our donation page guides you through the process, including adding Gift Aid to maximise your support. The process is administered by CAF.

Payroll Giving

Payroll Giving allows employees to donate from their gross income, so the gift will cost them less. Every pound donated will only cost the donor 80p or 60p, depending on the rate of tax paid. To learn more about setting up Payroll Giving or if you have any questions, please contact our fundraising team.

In memory donations

Honour a loved one by making a donation in their name. However you decide to remember your loved one, your donation will be much appreciated and help to support older people for years to come. Your donation can be used to support residents at a specific house, just let us know. If you have any questions please contact our fundraising team.

Leaving a gift in your will

By leaving a gift in your will, you can make a lasting difference to the lives of older people now and in the future, helping to provide safe, secure and friendly homes in local communities.
