Meet the team

Sophie Hughes
I have over 10 years experience in Housing Management for different Housing Associations. I am passionate about helping people, especially the vulnerable and this is why I love my job. Day to day management of a busy, diverse service brings its challenges but the residents and the team we have here make it all worth it.

I have worked here for 4 years. I really enjoy working with the elderly residents in our independent living service. I like getting to know them and helping them stay independent. I also appreciate the team I work with—we support each other and work well together, which makes the job enjoyable.

I’ve been here for 18 months, and I feel genuinely content. The residents and my colleagues treat me so well - it truly feels like having an extended family. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I fit in, and it’s a pleasure to come to work each day. Recently, I started helping in our restaurant, serving food - something I hadn’t done before. I love that Abbeyfield gives me opportunities to grow, develop new skills, and gain experience. I also really enjoy interacting with the residents and their families while working in the restaurant. It has added another meaningful and rewarding aspect to my role.

I have been here since 2019 and a lot has changed since lockdown. I have learnt a lot about life after retirement and met many lovely residents who all have interesting lives. I’ve recently enrolled on the Business Administration Apprenticeship Level 3 which I am really enjoying. I am very grateful that Abbeyfield are providing this opportunity for young people like me.
