Welcome to Bradbury House

Located in the charming village of Gosforth, Cumbria, Bradbury House is a residential care home offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our residents. Purpose built in 1998, the house boasts a rich history and even received a royal opening by King Charles, Prince Charles at the time in 1999!

Our spacious ensuite shower rooms offer spectacular views of the Cumbrian countryside and fells, ensuring a peaceful and relaxing environment. You can also enjoy socialising with fellow residents in our comfortable ground-floor lounge, which leads directly to a beautiful south-facing garden. For those seeking a bit of shade, our charming summer house and shaded seating area provides a perfect retreat.

More than just a care home

At Bradbury House, we offer exceptional person centred, 1 to 1 care, with a strong community presence. Our friendly and qualified staff are dedicated in providing you with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our cooks make delicious meals tailored to your individual dietary needs, and a wide range of daily activities and social events chosen by the residents are agreed and planned along with our Activities Coordinator.

Green-thumbed residents will love our raised garden beds, and we're excited to be making even greater use of our greenhouse.

A rural location

Our idyllic rural location offers peace and quiet, yet we're still conveniently close to all the amenities you need. There are several shops nearby for your daily essentials, with cafes,  hotels for loved ones who may visit and restaurants. There is a local nursery and primary school next door who often visit us and spend time with the residents. St Mary's Church is conveniently located just across the road.

The village of Gosforth is at the foot of Wasdale, the western part of the Lake District National Park and Bradbury House offers easy access to breathtaking scenery. Explore the stunning Wasdale Valley, home to England's deepest lake, Wastwater, and Scafell Pike, the country's highest mountain. For a more relaxed day out, head to the nearby Seascale Village and enjoy a Leisurely stroll on the beach.

Meet the team

Lesley Armistead
What I love about managing Bradbury House is the sense of warmth the home has. Everyone makes you feel welcome and it is a privilege to get to know our residents and their stories. I come from a Salvation Army background as a church minister and then moved into managing care homes. The reason I work for Abbeyfield is that it's a charity - just like The Salvation Army - that puts residents first. That's how it should be.

Care Home Manager

Barbara Anne
At Bradbury House, looking after people is the most important thing in my role as a general assistant. We have a great team who work well together to make sure everyone has the best support and staff are supporting each other. I think we all try to go over and above for our residents as a team. I love all aspects of my job and I don't see myself going anywhere else.

Barbara Redhead

General Assistant

Sally, Cook At Bradbury House
I ensure I provide a safe home where residents receive care fitting to their individual needs. What makes me proud is the support we as a team give each other. This allows us to make a small difference to residents' lives. Seeing residents happy, smiling, and feeling safe, that's what makes my work worthwhile.
